Internet Solutions invests R500-million in new data centre

Dimension Data’s Internet Solutions said on Wednesday that it is investing half a billion rand in a new, state-of-the-art data centre facility in Johannesburg.  Billed as Africa’s largest “prefabricated” data centre, the facility is located in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosebank and will be opened early next year.  The energy-efficient Parklands Data Centre is 1 600sq m in size and will provide 572 racks and 2.2MW of IT power.

Battery Room Explosion

A hydrogen explosion occurred in an Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) battery room. The explosion blew a 400 ft2 hole in the roof, collapsed numerous walls and ceilings throughout the building, and significantly damaged a large portion of the 50,000 ft2 building.
