There is a fundamental problem in managing Internet of Things (IoT)
sensors. IoT sensors need to be of the smallest possible form factor as
well as be designed to optimise battery life. Thus any unnecessary power
use needs to be restricted as well as the sensor needs to have power
hungry integrated circuits such as the radio in sleep mode when not
transmitting. The result is that it is not feasible from a power and
financial cost point of view to have a GPS sensor in every IoT device.
What this implies is that the management of IoT devices become
problematic as in a large eco-system the accuracy of where each sensor
is located is non-optimal. the reason is that each device needs to have
these details manually recorded by the installer. This also has problems
as transcribing introduces further human errors.
