With the latest outage at Standard Bank, every expert is climbing out of the woodwork in self-righteous indignation and saying, “How can this happen?” Somehow, in their minds it shouldn’t. However, if we look at it in a balanced and objective manner, the outage was not that debilitating and was only a couple of hours. The incident at Standard Bank is not something new, it has been happening for ages at different companies and most likely at yours as well.

Battery Room Explosion

A hydrogen explosion occurred in an Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) battery room. The explosion blew a 400 ft2 hole in the roof, collapsed numerous walls and ceilings throughout the building, and significantly damaged a large portion of the 50,000 ft2 building.
