Operating systems, such as Windows and Unix, as well as networks such as
Cisco, typically offer some native log management functionality. But
these log and event management mechanisms fall short of consolidating
the data in any meaningful way, leaving bits and pieces of event logs
scattered across a network. Not to mention, many of those events are
lost as a result of overwrites, creating a security and compliance
problem.
