Content providers are divided into three categories in South Africa: the
good, the bad and the ugly. The good are those that have their content
available via free peering exchanges namely NAPAfrica or JINX. The bad is those who peer on commercial transits. This is typically via the so-called cartel of operators, i.e. Telkom, MTN, IS and Vodacom
(these guys peer amongst themselves and lock out any other service
providers). Two of the bigger operators not in this group is Neotel and CellC. Some of the smaller ones are MWeb and iBurst. The last category is the ugly, those that host overseas but have South African operations.
