There I was in hospital undergoing a Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (google it here).
I had been suffering from reflux, so badly that I sat on the couch to
sleep upright. The problem was not due to acid overproduction but rather
mechanical dysfunction centred around the lower esophageal sphincter.
The surgeon said he had done many of these and he made it sound a
breeze. All that would be left behind was 8 unnoticeable little puncture
holes on my abdomen.
